Yoga uses breath and movement to simultaneously open, stretch, strengthen and relax the body and mind. It is the unique combination of breath with movement that makes yoga different from other forms of stretching and exercise.

“Yoga is not only low-impact and relaxing, but you can do it in the comfort of your home — no equipment necessary. It strengthens and tones your muscles. A combination of low-impact cardio with a yoga routine would really kick start your health transformation.”Dr. Sanjay Gupta

Studies are beginning to show the effectiveness of yoga as therapy for chronic low back pain[1] and depression. The breath work incorporated in yoga can be very effective in controlling asthma. Yoga can be an adjunct to any complementary alternative medicine protocol, whether it be chiropractic or acupuncture therapy. Stress has been shown to be extremely detrimental to a healthy body and mind. By simply reducing stress levels, which occurs when practicing yoga, one can improve one’s quality of life significantly. Furthermore, the systematic stretching and strengthening of opposing muscle groups can be therapeutic from a musculoskeletal standpoint.

Yoga with modifications can be safely practiced by everyone including post-surgical (back, hip, knee) patients. Being diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia shouldn't keep you away from yoga either; in fact it should be an encouraging reason to start practicing. Modifications can ensure the movements are safe, and you will benefit from improved balance and bone density in your wrists, hips and spine with regular practice. Classes are often tailored for specialized groups such as children, pregnant moms (prenatal) and new moms (post-partum).

I have developed a cutting edge Yoga for Fertility program that is based on the science behind Acupuncture for Fertility.
